Project Overview
In 2005, hurricanes Katrina and Rita created an immediate need for temporary housing that continues today. Corporate Lodging Consultants, the largest outsourced lodging services provider in North America, was able to assist the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in placing evacuees into available temporary housing in thousands of hotels across the United States. CLC administered the FEMA Short-Term Lodging program, which has temporarily housed more than 700,000 hurricanes Katrina and Rita evacuees since the inception of the program last year.
As time passed, these individuals were in need of more than just "transient" housing - resulting in the Federal Emergency Management Agency authorizing the transition of evacuees from hotels/motels into various apartment and condominium complexes.
FEMA contracted with CLC to manage the Landlord Direct Payment Plan, as part of the Disaster Assistance Program (DAP) on behalf of the federal government.
CLC will be responsible for:
- Obtaining participating landlord information/data
- Registering these landlords
- Identifying their qualified tenants/evacuees
- Making appropriate rental payments directly to the landlords.
